Information Please

We live in an "uncertain" age. That is, I don't know what "age" I'm in. Oh, I know I'm a "senior" but what about the big picture. I don't know if it is still the "Information Age" or not. I do know that I found out real fast that "Information" was not cheap. Everybody wants to sell you a book on almost anything you can think of. Why don't they just tell you what they know for FREE? Well, here in My Town you can still get our local newspaper for FREE. They even deliver it to your mail box FREE. Ours is a great little newspaper. All the local news and more. One of the best parts is the reporting of the Town Boards meeting, letters to the editor, and the police report. Of course you already know what most of the news is because your telephone hasn't stopped ringing. Anyway, we have a great little newspaper...didn't I just say so? The top pix shows where the newspaper is located. In there is Louige's? Pixxa. Great Pizzas here. High schoolers hangout there. FREE delivery also. Try it you'll like it as the slogan goes. Have a Pizza while you read your FREE paper.

The other Pix shows you one of our MANY Hair Salons here in the valley. I cannot possibly show them all to you because if you ask any woman they have the "only person who can do my hair right"! Shears is one of the few in a commercial building and it is next door to the barber shop.

Until next time......PEACE!

I've had a few days off and went to Mesquite, Nv., about 40 miles north of Overton. Had a good time at the Casa Blanca Resort Casino and Hotel. Now it is time to get back to work.
Above you see 3 more of our businesses on the South side of our main thoroughfare, Moapa Valley Blvd. This Blvd. is 5 lanes through town. Great for cars but not so good for our pedestrians...and we have a lot of "walkers".
Anyway, you see the other half of our True Value Hardware Store and where the car is parked is our ONLY barbershop. Our barber is very independent. He arrives "sometime after 9 am" and remains until he decides to quit for the day. Great haircuts though. Some women use him for their "short" haircuts.
On the next pix you see another of our 3 motels. Napa Auto Parts Store is the place you want to go if your car needs TLC. Nice people over there.
Well, that is some more of MY TOWN. Nice place to live and raise youngins!

Mt Town Pixs

Here are a couple of more pix of my town's main thoroughfare. The other "watering hole" is the Sportsman. Both of our watering holes have slots to play while you are indulging in a libation of your choice. Next to the Sportsman is one of our three motels in town. Ace Hardware is our other business that carries just about anything a person could possibly want. Competition is rough! We only have one (1) gas station and convience mart in Overton but there is another in Logandale about 7 miles up the road. Logandale is the home of our Clark County Fair in April. I hope you enjoy all my posts. Click on the Pix to get a closer look. Bookmark and send to all your contacts for me. Have a great day.

Go Togethers

Here is our towns two stores on the main street that I think really go together. How so you might ask? Well, think of it. On the one side you have the Health Store, and on the other is the Days Remembered Store. Get it?....If you stay healthy you will have more "days" to remember.
I know, quit trying to be a comedian.
Anyway, these two store are a necessity for us. The Days Remembered store has fresh flowers, UPS pickup stop, and a lot of "trinkets" that many have been hand made by "locals".
The Health Store handles local organic grown produce along with a full line of vitamins and related items.
So far, I have stayed on the main drag through town and have a lot more to show you, so make sure to bookmark this site and pass it on please. Come back often to see the rest of the town.

Sunday Morning

Sunday mornings in a small town is a very rewarding experience. It is so peaceful and quiet. The wife and I decided to eat breakfast at one of our two great restaurants pictured above....Sugar's and Carley's. Sugar's serves good ole "down home " cooking and Carley's serves what they call "creative American" food. Either way , you can't lose . You will receive more than you can eat and it won't cost you an arm & leg. And the kicker is you get that " friendly" service that makes you feel like your family. Try them and see if you don't agree. Then post to the comments. Remember to bookmark this blog and pass the address on to all your contacts. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

New Year 2008

Happy New Year.
Here we are already into 2008.
I trust everyone had a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
Many of our town folk celebrated by having family and or friends over.
Others had a grand ole time at one of our two "Watering Holes".
The Red Rooster, of which I will show you a picture, had a FREE buffet starting at 7 pm. This was very nice of the owner. I'm told there was standing room only!
The summer of 2007 found several TV crews from foreign countries here in Overton taking pictures to be used in their commercial. They especially liked the Red Rooster and took lots of film.
Also on that side of the street, there is the True Value Hardware Store and Sugar's Home Plate Restaurant. I'll show you a picture of Sugar's another time, but I will show you the True Value this time. In there you find anything....and I do mean ANYTHING that you could possibly need. Radio Shack is also in there.
No need to go to Mesquite or Las Vegas for any hardware supplies, sewing supplies, small appliances, plumbing, paint, etc. Here are the Pix I promised.
ENJOY!

Seeing as how it is the Holidays, I cannot forget to honor the Veterans who have served our country.
We are fortunate to have both a VFW and American Legion Posts here in the Valley. They do an awful lot of community service. The VFW Post has taken National Honors the past 2 years for community service. Each year the Veterans open up the WW2 tank for display and the kids love to climb all over it. There is always a Veterans Day parade on Nov. 11 of each year and the whole town turns out to honor our Vets. I believe that there is still 1 or 2 WW1 Veterans still alive. Salvation is free but Freedom comes at the cost of the precious blood of the American Veteran. And so I salute each and every one of them. I hope that you will also. God Bless our Veterans.
