Seeing as how it is the Holidays, I cannot forget to honor the Veterans who have served our country.
We are fortunate to have both a VFW and American Legion Posts here in the Valley. They do an awful lot of community service. The VFW Post has taken National Honors the past 2 years for community service. Each year the Veterans open up the WW2 tank for display and the kids love to climb all over it. There is always a Veterans Day parade on Nov. 11 of each year and the whole town turns out to honor our Vets. I believe that there is still 1 or 2 WW1 Veterans still alive. Salvation is free but Freedom comes at the cost of the precious blood of the American Veteran. And so I salute each and every one of them. I hope that you will also. God Bless our Veterans.

Xmas 2007 at Senior Center

This is our Senior Center in Overton, Nv. There are approx.
200 members and they enjoy cards, billiards, ceramics, music,
dancing, bingo, a library, computers, along with great meals and birthday trips. They host an annual swap meet and bazaar.
The quilters offer raffles on their hand made quilts through out the year. These are the "Doers and Donors" of the Senior World here

Ice Cream Parlor

At the South end of town is our Ice Cream Parlor called The Inside Scoop. They serve Dryer's Ice Cream along with very good sandwiches at reasonable prices. A lot of people passing through town on their way to Lake Mead Recreational Park or The Valley of Fire stop here to cool off during the hot summers here in the desert. Many of the people are tourists. Mostly from European countries. If you'r ever in the valley, stop in and check out this Overton land mark. You won't be sorry. Tell them Charlie sent you!
They won't know who Charlie is....but tell them anyway.

Chicken Soup

Something useful today!

Chicken Soup

The cold and flu season is upon us and “no remedy is more effective than Chicken Soup” says Dr. Pauline Jackson, M.D., a doctor at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

A classic Chicken Soup study done at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach bares this out.

Chicken Soup helps relieve cold symptoms. The soup’s healing secret lies in its savory aroma and taste. So, eat and sniff lots of Chicken Soup at the onset of cold symptoms.

My favorite recipe is:

10 cups water

6 TBSP Chicken Bouillon

1 carrot (diced)

1 celery rib (sliced)

1 clove garlic (diced)

Pepper

1/2 cup Fideo noodles

(found in Mexican section of store)

1 cup pre-cooked chicken

Mix water, bouillon, carrot, celery, and pepper in 4 quart pot.

Bring to boil.

Stir in noodles and pre-cooked chicken.

Cook over medium heat 10 minutes.

Makes 3 quarts.

Eat and sniff often at onset of cold symptoms.

May be frozen for later.

I spent most of this past week end thinking about what direction I wanted this blog to go. So many ways I person can go. I could make this "personal".
That is I could just use it to talk about what I have been up to.
I could use it as a political blog to promote a particular pary or candidate.
I could use it to promote the "Green" issues.
You see what I mean about hard to choose?

So, I have decide to use it for the purpose of getting to know the people who visit this site. Please respond to this blog with your origin of country or state and at least one item of interest about you.

You can learn more about me by visiting my profile. You may want to ask me a question or two or even three.

Today I received a notice that my Social Security will increase because they did not figure my SS right. They forgot to give me credit for timed serve in the Navy before SS was started.

There, you can figure out a lot about me from this one item.

Until next time....God Bless.

thanks

I owe a great big thank you to a dear friend of mine who helped me get this up and running. It seems that I am missing a "link" and am unable to send everyone the blog address. But my friend has figured out a way to get around the "link" I need. She did something on her computer and sent the address back to me in an e-mail so I can now send you the address. Keep coming back as I promise to update this blog with worthless info etc. First worthless piece of info is that I'm retiring again. Next firday is my last day of serving on the Senior Citizens Board of Directors.
Stay tuned good people.
